The Haircut Humbling: A Lesson in Embracing Imperfections

Hey everyone, I’ve got some unexpected news to share, but before I jump into that, let me give you a little background.

Like so many of us, the 2020 lockdowns brought me plenty of time and, let’s say, “creative opportunities.” One of these was haircuts—yes, I started cutting my own hair. At first, it was just a matter of necessity. But over time, it became a new skill I genuinely enjoyed. With each snip and shape, I taught myself new techniques, styling my hair in ways that expressed my personality and creativity. Before I knew it, I was creating styles I didn’t think possible, and I felt incredibly proud of what I’d achieved.

Which brings me to today’s update.

Last night, in what was supposed to be a routine trim, I made a critical error. A slip of the hand, a miscalculated snip—call it what you want, but I was suddenly facing a haircut catastrophe. After much thinking, brainstorming, and troubleshooting, I came to one conclusion: the best option was to start fresh and shave my head completely. Yes, that’s right. I shaved it all off—my entire head and face. It was the only path forward.

This experience has been a humbling reminder for me. No matter how practiced or talented we become, mistakes happen. Sometimes, even the most experienced make the biggest blunders. And while it’s not the end of the world, it is a reminder that perfection is an illusion and that growth comes from learning to accept our mishaps.

So, if you spot me around town in a hat, you’ll know why. And if you happen to see the “new look” in all its shaved glory—well, now you’re in on the story.

Let this serve as a lesson for all of us: embrace the imperfections, accept the hiccups, and keep moving forward.
